Garry Monk confirmed as Leeds' seventh manager under Massimo Cellino

The former Swansea boss had been out of work since last December.

FORMER SWANSEA CITY manager Garry Monk has become Leeds United’s seventh head coach under owner Massimo Cellino.

The fallen English giants have struggled for continuity under Cellino’s ownership which has overseen the sacking of Brian McDermott, David Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, Uwe Rosler and Steve Evans since he took over the club in April 2014.

Monk was relieved of his Swansea duties last December, just shy of two years in the role which began as an interim player-manager, and has been out of work since.

The 37-year-old’s appointment was confirmed at a press conference this afternoon, just two days after Evans was sacked.

Cellino had reportedly targeted Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson for the position but his advances were rejected.
